Marlyn Byrd
Started singing with the Clinton Valley Chapter in Utica, MI in 1976. This Chapter moved to Rochester in 1982 and became the Rochester Chapter. I served as Secretary, Treasurer, Show Chairman, and four years as President. In 1991 I retired from General Motors and moved to northern Michigan. During those years in Utica and Rochester I was assistant director and sometimes front line director during director transitions. As assistant director, I mentored under Al Fisk for several years. When I moved north I transferred to the Cadillac Chapter where I was assistant director. In 1995 I transferred to the newly formed Gaylord Chapter. After one year in Gaylord, I stepped into the front line director due to illness of the director, Hank Hedges, and have served in that position ever since.
I have attended several Harmony Round-ups in Michigan, a four-day director Training in Kenosha, Harmony College and Directors College in St.Joseph, MO. I sang in a Quartet in Rochester called the Silver Classics and a Quartet in Roscommon named the Pine Tones.
In addition to directing barbershop, I sing in a community chorus, a church choir, work full-time as a manager of the Community, Recreation, Activity and Fitness Center. I serve as the Financial Secretary for the Good Shepherd Church, Treasurer for the Roscommon Metro Rec. Authority and Treasurer of the Top Notch Teen Center. I have been married for 49 years, have two children and three grandchildren.
