President - James Quin |
| I am Jim Quin and this is some of my background in barbershop singing. I first started singing barbershop back in 1948 when my high school chorus teacher picked four of us out of the group and taught us to sing four part harmony in barbershop style. The song she taught us was Coney Island Baby. We were a great hit at our school show. Our only problem was we only knew this one song. We visited the Redford Chapter of the Barbershop Society and sang our one song. They quickly started us learning more songs. We were hooked. Unfortunately after we graduated in 1949 we were split up by the Korean Conflict and when we were discharged from the military service we were in, there was only two of us left. Our bass went on to college and became a teacher and I, the lead, was married and started a family, I didn't get back into barbershop singing until I attended the Harmonie Meisters, of Gaylord Mi., Show of Champions ten years ago. I was hooked for a second time. Joined their Chorus and the Society. Formed a quartet nine years ago called the Sonic Tonics and have had a great time performing all over northern Michigan from Mackinaw City to West Branch and from East Jordan to Atlanta. As a former executive of Ford Motor Co my juices were flowing to become an officer of our chapter. So I was elected their President for two terms and am now the immediate past President for the past three years. I will be taking the office of President once again in 2007.I love this great hobby of ours and love the camaraderie of all the men in our chapter and of those I have met at our district functions. Attend a Barbershop Society Chapter Show and you to can be like all of us. Hooked. Jim Quin |
